Alf
Chappell, Sam Tucker ve Luke
Weller bu destan bisiklet
seyahatini planlıyorlar. Alf'in özvatanı dediği
Türkiye'ye ve Türk halkına, ayrıca zora ve seyahat
etmeye olan sevgisi bu yazın sonunda yaşamının doruk
noktasında toplanacak.
Bu Eylül'de Sam Tucker ve Luke Weller adlı
iki genç arkadaşıyla Alf Chappell İzmir Türkiye'den
yola çıkıp 11.000 kilometrelik bisiklet seyahatinin
sonunda Cape Town , Güney Afrika'ya varmayı
planlıyor. Bu olayın nedeni İzmir Dr. Behçet
Uz Çocuk
Vakfına destek vermektir.
Alf ve arkadaşları bu muazzam girişime ve epik
maceraya,
hem bireysel dayanma güçlerini denemek için,
hem de bu fırsatı Dr. Behçet Uz Çocuk
Hastanesinin kanserli çocuklar için yeni
alanlarda yaptıkları mükemmel tıbbi araştırma ve
tedavilerine para toplama amacı ile , atılmaya karar
verdiler.
Alf, sizden bu cesur yolculuklarında kendisini ,
ayrıca arkadaşları Sam ve Luke'u desteklemenizi
istiyor. Bu bir kaç şekilde olabilir:
* İzmir'den Mersine kadar olan
seyahatin ilk bölümünde , Türkiye'nin Güney
kıyıları boyunca pedal çevirerek onlara etap etap
katılabilirsiniz.

Alf Chappel kimdir ?
Kendim hakkında ne söyleyebilirim.
1954 yılında İngiltere'nin Galler bölgesinde
doğdum. O yöredeki okul arkadaşlarım gibi 15 yaşında
kömür
madenlerinde çalışmaya başladım. Bu inanılmaz iş
tecrübesi
beni önümdeki hayata iyi hazırladığı gibi,
artık hayatta herşeyi deneyebilirdim ki
bir çok şeyi
yaptımda.
Ama her nasılsa yaşadığım ülkeyi değiştirmem
ve hayatımda aslında ne yapmak istediğimi
keşfetmem daha uzun yıllarımı aldı.
36 yaşında
Türkiye' ye yerleştim ve Scuba Diving (Tüple Dalış)
yapmaya başladım, o zamandan
itibaren de bu benim mesleğim haline geldi.
Dalış yapmadığım zamanlarda eşim, Bala Birsin
Chappell ile seyahat etmeyi çok severim. Biz
dünyanın bir çok ülkesini görmek şansına sahip olduk
ve bu sayede ikinci tutkum olan Trekkingi keşfettik.
Son yedi yıl içinde harika bir ülke olan Nepal'de ,
Himalayalar'da birçok defa Everest ve Mustang
bölgelerini ziyaret edip, trekking yaptık.
Şimdi size Sam ve Luke 'u tanıştıracağım:
Sam Tucker
12 yaşında mantalitesi olan 26 yaşında bir adamdır.
Rahat ve hep keyifli davranışıyla zannedersiniz ki
Hawaii' de doğdu , aslında tam ters i kendisi
İngiltere Liverpool' lu.
Sam 15 yaşındayken annesiyle beraber Türkiye'
ye yerleşti. Ben onunla, Lykia World Tatil Köyü nün
Dalış Merkezini idare ederken tanıştım ve devamlı
mutlu, arkadaş canlısı, güler yüzlü haliyle, herkesi
keyiflendirir, eğlendirir,
işte can
sıkıcı bir gün bile olmazdı. Sam de seyahat etmeyi
çok sever ve dünyanın bir çok yerini gezdi. Genç
yaşında yaptıklarının yanı sıra, yardım severliliği
ve çalışkanlığı yadsınamaz.
İlk günden beri bu macerayı hevesle bekliyor
ve biliyorum ki zorlandığım anlarda başımı çevirip
geri baktığımda (evet, önünde olacağım ) onun
kocaman gülüşü beni motive edip, o extra kilometreyi
de gitmemi sağlayacak.
Luke Weller
Luke'a teşekkürler, bu macera fikri onun sayesinde
oluştu. Uzun yıllar hayalini kurduktan sonra, geçen
sene Lykia World Dalış merkezinde staj yaparken ,
Türkiye'den Güney Africa/Cape Town'a
pedal çevirerek gitme fikri ile ortaya çıktı.
Luke 27 yaşında bir muhasebeci ve ilk tanıştığımızda
da bana tipik bir muhasebeci, masa başı çalışanı
olarak
gözüktü . Fakat çok yanılmışım gerçekten
değişik yetenekleri olan çok iyi bir insan ve
beraber geçirdiğimiz 3 ay boyunca, bu macerada
takıma ne kadar katkısı ve motivasyonu olacağını
ispatladı.
Özetlemek gerekirse, üçümüz 15 Eylül 2013 tarihinde
İzmir'de Dr.Behçet Uz Çocuk Hastanesi önünden
yola çıkıp,
2014 Ocak ayında Cape Town'a varmayı planlıyoruz.

Alf
Chappell, Sam Tucker and Luke Weller plan this epic
bicycle journey.
Alf’s love for his adopted country and its people,
combined with his enthusiasm for challenges and
travel, will culminate later this summer in the
expedition of a lifetime. This September, together
with two young friends, Sam Tucker and Luke Weller,
they will set out from Izmir, Turkey on a
11,000
kilometre bike ride to Cape Town, South
Africa and all this is being done in the name of
Izmir’s
Dr Behcet Uz
Children Hospital Foundation
and their work with childhood cancer.
Alf and his friends have not only set themselves
this herculean task and epic adventure as a personal
test of their endurance but also as a unique
opportunity to raise money for the
Dr Behcet Uz
Children Hospital,
Centre
of Excellence and their ground breaking medical
research and treatment for children with cancer.
Alf asks you all to support him, Sam and Luke during
their courageous journey in several ways

Who is Alf Chappell?
What can I say about myself.
I was born in Wales in 1954 and started out
my working life at the tender age of 15, like most
of my school friends down the coal mines, and I
think this prepared me well for the life ahead.
After this incredible work experience I was
ready to try anything and came close to doing just
that, however it took me until the age of 36 and a
change of country to really find my vocation, SCUBA
DIVING and this has been my working life ever since.
When I'm not scuba diving I love to travel with my
wife Bala Birsin Chappell, and we have been
fortunate enough to visit many countries around the
world, this then led to my second passion, TREKKING.
Over the last seven years we have trekked in
the wonderful country of Nepal and managed to visit
the Everest and Mustang regions many times.
Now I would like to introduce Sam and Luke
Sam Tucker
is a 26 year old man with a 60 year old body and a
12 year old mentality.
The latter being my favorite trait about him.
With his care free attitude you would think
he was born straight out of Hawaii itself, when in
fact it is quite the opposite....Liverpool.
Sam moved out to Turkey when he was 15 and has not
looked back.
I first met Sam when I managed the Diving
Centre at Lykiaworld and every day he was happy,
outgoing and always up for a laugh as they say.
With his great personality and his wide
cheeky grin there is never a dull day at work.
Sam's exploits have seen him travel to most corners
of the earth.
His notable achievements, at still a young
age, go hand in hand with his willingness to help
others and he is not fearful of hard exertion in a
day’s work.
He has looked forward to this adventure since
day one and I for one know that when the going gets
tough, I can look behind my shoulder (yes I will be
in front of you) and see his cheeky wide eyed grin,
which will motivate me more to go that extra
kilometre.
Luke Weller
This
whole adventure came about thanks to Luke.
After many years dreaming of what could be,
he finally came up with the idea of cycling to Cape
Town while on his Scuba diving Internship program
with us at Lykiaworld.
Luke is a 27 year old former accountant, and when I
first met him he appeared to me as a typical
accountant (If you know what I mean), however I
couldn't have been more wrong, what a genuinely nice
guy. In the 3 short months that he spent with me he
proved himself to be a major part of our team and
his ability to motivate will be a real asset to this
trip.
So to summarize, the 3 of us plan to cycle from Dr.
Behçet Uz Children Hospital in Izmir on the 15th
September 2013 to Cape Town, South Africa arriving
around the middle of January 2014.To donate to Dr.Behçet Uz Children
